ADEQ requires that when homeowners wish to dispose of "slash" (brush trimmings, pine needles, weeds and such) by ways of burning, they must attain a permit from the local jurisdiction and adhere to certain rules.
Burning for means of removal of "slash" material is permitted when there are no fire restrictions, the property owner obtains a permit from us and burns within the times allotted.
Annual permits can be filled out and submitted to burnpermit@hellsgatefire.org the form along with the rules can be found below. You may also file one in person at the main station in Star Valley during office hours (Monday-Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm).
There is no cost for the permit. A local permit must accompany your state permit that will allow the burning for up to one week increments. The local permit can be issued by sending an email to burnpermit@hellsgatefire.org **PREFERRED METHOD. You may also receive one in person or over the phone. *If you leave a message, your permit does not begin until a staff member returns your call.
We will do our best to promptly respond to your request for burn permits outside of office hours. However, we can't guarantee this. To avoid any delays it is best to request permission to burn during the work week.
